Final Grade Calculator
Find out what score you need on your final exam to reach your target course grade, given your current grade, the grade you want, and how much the final exam is worth.
Grade needed on final exam
—
How It Works
The calculation uses the weighted average formula: Final = (Desired − Current × (1 − w)) / w, where w is the final exam weight as a decimal (e.g., 25% = 0.25).
Your current grade represents everything you have completed so far, and the final exam weight is the portion of your total grade that the final exam determines.
If the required score is above 100%, reaching your desired grade is not possible with the final alone. If it is below 0%, you have already secured your target.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the required score is over 100%?
That means your desired grade is not achievable with the final exam alone, even with a perfect score. You may need to adjust your target or earn extra credit elsewhere.
What is the final exam weight?
It is the percentage of your overall course grade that the final exam represents. For example, if your syllabus says the final is worth 25% of your grade, enter 25.
Does this work for any grading scale?
Yes. Enter your current grade and desired grade on whatever scale your course uses — percentage points, a 4.0 scale, or any other numeric scale. The formula is scale-agnostic.
