Convert between common units across length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, and data with bidirectional conversion and instant results.
How It Works
For most categories, every unit is converted to a base unit and back, so a value in any unit can be transformed into any other unit with a single conversion factor. Length, weight, volume, speed, and data all work this way.
Temperature is handled separately because the scales have different zero points. Celsius to Fahrenheit uses F = C × 9/5 + 32, Celsius to Kelvin uses K = C + 273.15, and the reverse conversions invert those formulas.
As you type a value into either field, the other field updates instantly with the converted value. Switching units or categories recalculates from whichever field you most recently edited.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does temperature convert differently from other units?
Length, weight, and similar units share a common zero, so they only need multiplication. Temperature scales have different zero points, so conversion also needs an additive shift, which is why temperature has its own formulas.
Are the data units in decimal or binary form?
The data units use decimal multiples (1 KB = 1,000 bytes), which is the convention used for storage and networking. For memory sizes reported by operating systems in binary units, use the base-2 values instead.
Can I convert in both directions?
Yes. Typing in either input instantly updates the other, so you can convert from unit A to unit B or from unit B to unit A at any time.
