How It Works

Annual salary equals hourly wage times hours per week times weeks per year. The default of 40 hours and 52 weeks gives 2,080 working hours per year, the standard full-time assumption.

To go the other way, hourly wage equals annual salary divided by (hours per week times weeks per year). Adjust the hours and weeks to match your actual schedule — part-time hours, unpaid time off, or overtime all change the result.

Both directions use the same working-hours figure, so switching modes keeps your hours-per-week and weeks-per-year inputs and just inverts the math.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the default use 2,080 hours per year?
Forty hours per week times 52 weeks equals 2,080 hours, which is the standard full-time year used by most employers and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Should I account for unpaid vacation?
Yes. If you take two weeks of unpaid time off, set weeks per year to 50 instead of 52 to reflect the hours you actually work and get paid for.
Does this include overtime, bonuses, or taxes?
No. The result is base pay from regular hours only. Overtime, bonuses, commissions, and tax withholding all change your actual take-home pay and should be handled separately.
